 Notes:

    α  The order of the C96h point group is 192, and the order of the principal axis is 96.

    β  This is an Abelian point group (the commutative law holds between all symmetry operations).
       The C96h group is Abelian because all its symmetry operations are coaxial. This is a sufficient condition.
       In Abelian groups, all symmetry operations form a class of their own, and all irreducible representations are one-dimensional.

    γ  Because the group is Abelian and the maximum order of rotation is >2, some irreducible representations have complex characters.
       These 188 cases have been combined into 94 two-dimensional representations that are no longer irreducible but have real-valued characters.
       Accordingly, 94 pairs of left and right rotations have been combined into one two-membered pseudo-class each.

    δ  The 94 reducible "E" representations almost behave like true irreducible representations.
       Their norm, however, is twice the group order. Therefore, they have been marked with an asterisk in the table.
       This is essential when trying to decompose a reducible representation into "irreducible" ones using the familiar projection formula.

    ε  Some of the characters in the table are irrational because the order of the principal axis is neither 1,2,3,4 nor 6.
       These irrational values can be expressed as cosine values, or as solutions of algebraic equations with a leading coefficient of 1.
       All characters are algebraic integers of a degree less than half the order of the principal axis (and often much less).

    ζ  The point group corresponds to a constructible polygon, as the order of the principal axis is a product of any number
       of different Fermat primes (3,5,17,257,65537) times an arbitrary power of two. Therefore, all characters have an
       algebraic degree which is a power of two and can be expressed as radicals involving only square roots and integer numbers.

    η  The fact that the regular 96-gon is constructible was used by Archimedes of Syracuse to calculate a rational approximation to π.
       His method consisted of computing (a) the ratio between the height (distance between opposing edges) to the circumference and
       (b) the ratio between the diameter (distance between opposing vertices) to the circumference as upper and lower bounds to π, respectively.
       This is is equivalent of approximating a circle with two regular 96-gons circumscribed and inscribed to it. To avoid irrational numbers,
       Archimedes approximated √3 by simple fractions chosen such to preserve the strict bound properties of the results.

       He arrived at the result 25344/8069 < π < 29376/9347 (in decimal 3.14091 < π < 3.14283), which he then shortened to the simpler result
       3+10/71 < π < 3+1/7 or 3.14085 < π < 3.14286. The exact result would have been 96*sin(2π/192) < π < 96*tan(2π/192) or 3.141032 < π < 3.142715.

       Using a series involving the regular 96-gon, the Chinese mathematician Liú Huī 劉徽 got slightly tighter bounds, 3.141024 < π < 3.142704.
